The DOC Langhe Favorita of Giacomo Barbero is an excellent wine, pleasant and harmonious. It is a wine of great freshness. Characterized by a scent of exotic flowers and fruits obtained from the vine of the same name. Known as Vermentino in Liguria, from where it was transported along the salt and oil routes until it found on the hills of Langhe and Roero, well exposed to the sun. The ideal conditions for its development. Definitely pleasant and easy to drink. With modern winemaking techniques, this vine gives a fresh and drinkable product. With strong aromas of flowers and some notes of exotic fruits. The color is straw yellow, with just hinted greenish reflections. It should be served at 12-13 ° C.
Excellent as an aperitif, the Langhe Favorita proves to be an excellent companion of appetizers but finds its best place as an accompaniment to fried fish and shellfish. This wine is also excellent next to boiled fish and not demanding first courses, vegetable soups and fish soups.
As mentioned, “la” Favorita is a rare and original Piedmontese vine whose appearance in the Roero dates back to the times of trade with nearby Liguria; in fact the Favorita is also known as Vermentino or Pigato. A white grape variety grown in the area surrounding the city of Alba, in Roero and in the Upper Belbo Valley. Areas with medium-textured soils, of a sandy / calcareous-siliceous nature, which allow to obtain fragrant and elegant wines. On the slopes of the Roero hills, in fact, this vine attenuates its foliar vigor to the detriment of a sugary enrichment in the bunches which, at the end of ripening, obtain a straw yellow color reminiscent of that of freshly harvested wheat.
